<@Dreol> [Power Sliders Session 3] <@Dreol> [Okay when we last left our heroes who were searching for a boat they had met a distraught fisherman who could not catch some giant fish. They have now decided to go and check out the larger ships.] <@Dreol> [Begin] * Cassiopeia eyes the boats as they wander down the dock, concentrating more on evaluating their seaworthiness than on searching for knickknacks. <@Dreol> [The ships further down the dock are mainly commercial trading ships. Your trip across the dock is frequently interrupted by people carrying cargo on and off of the boats. These boats are all much larger than the small fishing boat and it seems likely that they would be much more capable of taking you across the sea as a result.] <@Dreol> [It's also likely it would be harder to get a ride.] * Katsuo inspects the boats. "What you think? Help fisherman?" Yeah. If we had more money, or if they were offering rides for free if we beat them at a game of skill, chance, or insulting, I'd say go for it. I think the fisherman might be our best shot. * Katsuo nods. <@Dreol> [Link tags along behind you looking up at the large ships. "Hm... So where do you guys think the next temple is, anyway? We have to get there as soon as we can. The princess needs our help!"] * Cassiopeia looks to Katsuo. "This is more your thing than mine." I think somewhere across the sea. Your destination always is in the places you haven't explored. If you can reach them, that is. <@Dreol> [Link nods. "So are we going to help the old man, then?"] Yeah, let's. <@Dreol> [Link smiles and heads back to the other end of the dock where the depressed fisherman is. "Hey Mister! We'll help you catch your fish."] * Katsuo nods. <@Dreol> [The old man sighs and shakes his head. "You're very kind to an old man, but I have given up now. Here, though, lad. Take my fishing pole. Maybe it will serve you better than it has me." And the old man reaches to his side passes his fishing pole to Link who takes it happily. "Thanks, sir! We won't let you down!" And Link returns to the group.] Maybe we can catch that thing and trade it for a ride? * Katsuo nods. "And a piece of heart." <@Dreol> [Link nods to Cass. "Yes, I think so... Uh do either of you know how to fish? I'm not very good, myself."] * Katsuo scratches his head. "I never fished much. Too busy in school and business." Not with a pole. I'm okay with a net off a boat, and even that's more principle than practice. I can give you some tips, at least. Unless you're doing real bulk fishing, it's all about patience. And bait. <@Dreol> [Link nods. "Al lright. Where do we find some bait?"] Worms? Worms work. Anything dangly and wriggly does, really. <@Dreol> [Link looks at Katsuo. "All right. We should go find some worms, then."] * Cassiopeia digs into one of her coat pockets, and pulls out a little squishly, brightly colored plastic squid with dangly tentacles. "This should work." * Katsuo nods. Cassiopeia knows more about fishing than he does! <@Dreol> [Link looks it over and nods. "Okay! Why don't you try first." He hands Cass the pole.] Put that on the hook, find some open water where there's nothing to scare off the fi- um, okay. * Cassiopeia takes the pole, and works on putting the lure on the hook as she finds some open water along the dock. <@Dreol> [At the end of the dock the water looks pretty calm. The fisherman's boat is the only one on this side of the dock and he is pretty far away at this point.] * Cassiopeia manages to get the lure onto the hook without skewering her fingers, then takes a few test swings before casting her line out into the water. "Here goes nothin'." * Katsuo waits calmly for fish. FISH. <>< <@Dreol> [As Cass casts, the lure sinks into the water with a "plop" and it sits there for some time, finally she feels a snag. Whatever is on the end of the line does not put up much resistance and when she finally reels in the line she finds out why. On the other end of her line is a clump of seaweed tangled around one rupee.] ... huh. * Cassiopeia hands the rupee to Link. "Want to give it a try?" <@Dreol> [Link shrugs and takes the rupee and the pole. "All right." He approaches the end of the dock and casts into the water.] Remember, if you get a bite, bring it in slowly so you don't break the line. And make sure you mock the fish to break its spirit. <@Dreol> [After some time of waiting for a bite Link appears to have gotten something. He struggles for some time and reels up a small trout looking fish. He looks back at Cass and shakes his head. "Not a very big fish, huh?"] * Katsuo hmms. * Cassiopeia shrugs, takes the trout, and sticks it in a pocket as she turns to Katsuo. "Your turn." * Katsuo takes the pole and sets down to fish. "O.K." <@Dreol> [Katsuo casts the lure into the water and waits patiently. After about five minutes he feels a tug on the line. When he pulls it up there is a sopping wet hat, similar to Link's cap except white, on the end of it.] * Katsuo looks curiously at the hat, and passes the rod off to Cassi. * Cassiopeia takes the rod. And the hat. And tries again! * Katsuo took the hat off first. <.< * Cassiopeia takes the hat regardless! <@Dreol> [Cass's luck has not improved much, but she does get a fish. She fishes up a slightly larger trout than the one previously caught by Link. It struggles a great deal but after a good amount of fighting she does catch it.] * Cassiopeia shrugs and puts it aside, since she already has a fish, and hands the pole to Link. "Your turn." * Katsuo thinks. "Maybe, ah, Kyler better at fishing?" * Cassiopeia mutters as she does so. "Stupid game-lengthening grindy minigame... at least it's not a trading sequence..." Kyler know sports, and fishing is sport, right? * Cassiopeia begins to glow softly as she continues muttering. "C'mon, Link, you can do it... you're the hero, and the hero can do anything he puts his mind to..." <@Dreol> [Link nods and sits on the edge of the dock. He makes a cast out into the ocean. After some time he manages to get something on his line. It's really big, but he can't seem to reel it in. He pulls with all his might but it looks like the fish might actually pull Link right off of the dock.] * Cassiopeia runs up to Link, trying to help him reel the thing in. "C'mon, you can do it!" She looks out at the fish. "Is that the best you can do? You fight like a cowfish!" * Katsuo tries to assist Link in reeling the fish in. "Come on, we can do this! Get the fish up here!" <@Dreol> [Cass and Link struggle for some time and Cass manages to keep Link from being pulled off the dock. It still looks like they cannot get the fish onto the dock. But then, after Katsuo joins in, the fish becomes more manageable and can be seen getting closer to the docks.] <@Dreol> [Cass appears to be getting tired but Katsuo taps into some into some inner strength and with a great pull the fish comes flopping onto the deck. It is enormous. It's as long as Link is tall and wider than he is wide. It continues flopping on the deck as Link steps back to catch his breath.] * Katsuo moves to keep the fish from getting back into the water. "I think this fish that fisherman sad about." * Cassiopeia eyes the fish. "... I need bigger pockets." * Cassiopeia slaps Katsuo and Link on the back as the glow around her fades. "Nice job, boys!" * Cassiopeia turns to the old fisherman's boat, and calls out. "Hey, old fisherman guy! We got a fish for you!" <@Dreol> [The fisherman looks over and blinks as he stares at the fish flopping around on the dock. He suddenly seems to get excited and runs over to the group of them. "It's Gynamo!"] Is very big fish. <@Dreol> [The fisherman nods excitedly. "Yes! Oh, I cannot believe I was able to see Gynamo again! Thank you. What is it you need, I am in your debt?"] We're gonna need a ride. Somewhere. <@Dreol> [The fisherman turns to Cass. "Yes, of course, you may take my boat. Now that I have finally found Gynamo I no longer need it. I will live the rest of my life in comfort."] * Cassiopeia blinks, and wanders over to examine the boat a bit more closely. * Katsuo smiles and bows to the fisherman. "Thank you very much." <@Dreol> [Link wanders off with the others, and the fisherman drags Gynamo off by the tail off the dock and through the town happily.] * Cassiopeia walks back and forth for a moment before she breaks out in a small grin. She does a quick spin, raises an arm, then sing-songs. "I've got a boat!" How boat look? Good boat? <@Dreol> [The boat is pretty beaten up, but serviceable. It's small enough that people are going to be cramped but it will certainly hold all of you.] ... it's seaworthy, but that's about it. Now let's go see if there's anything not nailed down that looks interesting. *gets on the boat* * Katsuo gets into the boat to check things out! <@Dreol> [The boat is a pretty simple fishing boat. The deck is enough to fit about three or four people on comfortably, and there is a small cabin area with two beds, and a small stove. Across from the stove is a pantry of sorts where there are various preservatives (salt and such) to make fish last longer. There is one frying pan and one larger soup pot, as well.] <@Dreol> [And on the beds are a couple of blankets and pillows.] ... this'll do. Barely. * Katsuo doesn't seem bothered by it. After all, he's from JAPAN, and must reinforce the traditions of GLORIOUS NIPPON! * Cassiopeia reaches into her backpack, and pulls out, then unfolds, a vaguely triangular hat before putting it on her head. "Ah. There we go." Captain? Yarr. * Cassiopeia grins widely. And given your feat of strength back there, I think it's only fair that I make you first officer. * Katsuo salutes Cassiopeia professionally. Yes Captain! * Katsuo grins. <@Dreol> [Session End]
