<@Grysar> [Date: December 24, 2003.] <@Grysar> [Kyon has something special planned for Katie for Christmas eve. The moment to reveal his diabolical plan has now arrived.] <@Grysar> [Kyon kindly tell us what you do, either just starting directly, or laying the scene if the reveal is not in your humble abode."] <@Grysar> [Start.] * Kyon holds the door open to the apartment. "Hey. Okay. Everything's set. Can come in now." * Katie steps in, looking around. She stayed out of hearing-or-sight range of the apartment for most of the day, having skipped out with a bag of clothes to spend some time elsewhere. Now she is here, and she actually dressed up, in a cute green dress that ends just above her knees, one-and-a-half inch heels, and a light gray wool overcoat that she's removing now. She has a silver necklace with * Katie crystal snowflakes, and she's wearing... make up? A little bit of make up. * Kyon blinks at her a couple of times as he stands back. He's in a dark grey button-down shirt with a dark orange undershirt, and a pair of black pants, along with in-house slippers. "Not what you left in." * Katie smiles at Kyon. "" She goes to put her coat away and remove her shoes. * Kyon nods curtly, and runs a hand down his forearm, where his armwarmers would normally be. "" * Katie glances down at Kyon's movement, spots the complete lack of armwarmer over his hand, and her teasing smile becomes bright and genuine. "Thank you." * Kyon nods curtly again, and then steps to the side, making space for her to head down the hall. "C'mon. Got it together in the dining room." * Katie nods and walks farther in, noting where Kyon cleaned up as she heads for the dining room. * Kyon follows along into the room. The area does have some decorations - pine needle-looking things strung out over doorways, a wreath on the door to the bedroom, some tinsel, and a small, nice looking artificial tree in a stand. The oven's on, set to warm, as well. * Katie notes the small details, smiling at some of them. She stops in the middle of the dining room and turns to look at Kyon, curiously. * Kyon looks back at her, cocking his head and smirking slightly. "Yeah, it's not all." * Katie laughs upon seeing Kyon's smirk. "Okay," she says, her eyes twinkling. "Should I sit down?" * Kyon inclines his head. "If you want." He crosses over to the oven. "Never did this before, but this's your first Christmas here. Living here. So, got to do it right." * Katie looks at Kyon curiously, but she goes to sit down and fold her hands on the table. "Do what right?" * Kyon gestures curtly at the room. "This, and..." He tugs open the oven, crouches for a bit, and pulls out a warm serving platter. "Had to reserve this in August," he says, and turns to set it on the table. It's got a big set of Kentucky Fried Chicken on a white serving plate, with smaller plates of biscuits, mashed potatoes, a small bowl of gravy, and some vegetables that seem to have been * Kyon added separately. <@Grysar> [Kyon you've been feeling better sour-arm, doing the organizing with care, getting dinner in order, trying an experimental armwarmer free out fit. But something about the way you elegently lifted the dinner sets off a shooting pain in your arm. What do you do?] * Katie 's eyes widen, she brights up her hands to her mouth, and behind them she says, "" Her eyes crinkle. "" She tries to hold her expression, but she can't, and she falls right into a fit of giggles, her hands over her mouth. * Kyon scowls, and quickly puts down the platter on the table, with rather more of a thump and a roll than intended, but nothing too bad. He grabs at his elbow, and looks down at her. "What? This is it, right?" he says, rubbing the elbow crossly. <@Grysar> [The elbow pain is now of the dull, steady sort. The insistent warning to not trust the arm but not the spikes of a moment ago.] * Katie starts at Kyon's scowl. "I'm sorry! It's not- I'm not laughing at *you*." Her voice is genuine, but her eyes are still laughing. She reaches over to grab Kyon's hand gently, pulling him down to sit. <@Grysar> [Katie, entice the boy please.] * Kyon winces visibly, but lets himself get sat down, bending his legs in under his chair. "So what then?" * Katie smiles gently. "It's the fried chicken. Kentucky Fried Chicken is junk food. Nobody eats it around Christmas in America. I know it's kind of a thing here, but I just-" Her brain skips back to an earlier comment. "You reserved it in *August*?" * Kyon nods, still looking cross, and gingerly massages his elbow. "Yeah. If you want the full platter, got to get your order in early. It's big business." * Katie looks back at the chicken. "That's more of a thing than I thought."' * Kyon looks at the chicken, too, then back to her. "So it's not right? I thought, it had to be right. Where else would this come from?" <@Grysar> [If Katie has not been to a KFC during her years in Japan, she may be a bit surprised here that the quality of the food is higher than she associates with the chain. That said, it's also true of most any American chain food she encounters in Japan.] * Katie shrugs. "I don't know. Advertising? Nobody could find turkey or ham?" She reaches over to pick up a drumstick and get herself some mashed potatoes. "I do like fried chicken. I'm sorry I laughed." * Kyon looks at her sidewise for a beat, now feeling a bit further down his forearm. "No. If it's not real, I get it. Just your first Christmas here. And we're going for your family, too. But I thought, should give you a real Christmas. Like. The best I could do here, for an American Christmas. So, that's this," and he juts his chin at the table. * Katie giggles again before she manages to stop herself, and she reaches over and squeezes Kyon's arm. "I love it." She sounds sincere. "Thank you, really." We'll have an American Christmas tomorrow with my parents, but this is Christmas with you. That's all I wanted. * Kyon looks at her again, eyes half lidded, and then nods quickly. "Okay. Then. Good." <@Grysar> [And the shared a lovely traditional Christmas eve meal.]
