[Grysar] It's not unusual for Haruko to be up past midnight, dorm life and all, but she doesn't see the Katie email until the next day. She sends out two emails in succession, easier one first. Well mostly easier. She repeatedly writes and then removes references in the first email that Taki reminds her of a particular major Utena character. (The second e- mail is in [Re: Safe Travels and Wataru Yamada].) Date: Morning of January 8, 2004 Subject: Cross-cultural exchanges! To: Taki Shimiru, Satoshi Watanabe Hi Taki and Satoshi, The topic of Utena (aren't I fancy) recently came up because Yamada-san is going to be returning a card from my Utena-themed deck. I learned that Satoshi has not seen it. Have you Taki? Either way, Satoshi though that Paul-san might have it in his collection. I thought it might be fun to find out what's in his collection and maybe make some recommendations and even rewatch some things back on our end. It might also be a chance for some text English practice which is a little easier for me than spoken and more important to my career. We could even include Shizaru-san if you like. Sometimes when I start talking more with guys, their girlfriends often get the wrong impression and I try to preempt that when I can. ^^; Also, Taki, I've recently picked up some omamori against ill-intended magic. I want to help you stay out of this stuff so I'll give you one when next we see each other. Perhaps for that study/study steam release session? To: Haruko Kinsha, Taki Shimiru La filette revolutionaire? That's French, right? I'm actually thinking about starting to study French since we're pretty close to Quebec. It might help later on, too. Just looking at his shelves, I saw Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion. He's definitely got more, but that's all that's sitting out. I think he took some home with him over break and I'm not rummaging through the closet. There might be more at the club he goes to as well. I'm sure he'd be happy to let me know what's available when he gets back. I'll update the list when he returns. If I can fit it in with classes and practice and keeping up with everyone, I guess I wouldn't mind trying to do some coordinated watching, but I can't really promise anything definite right now. Satoshi --- [Grysar] (Encrypted e-mail) Date: January 8, 2004 (Evening Japan/Early Morning Eastern US) Subject: Re: Okay, I have to ask... To: Satoshi Watanabe In her case, it's as much a ward against the Wheel of Fortune and Arcana weirdness as anything else. But there aren't omamori for that. Counter- sorcery is as close as it comes. This is how I intend to explain it, I did tell her I'd pray protection against such things even before we got together around Christmas. I kind of feel bad leaving Taki out of the other e- mails, but if that's what she really wants... I hope she's not a target, but Arcana weirdness is pretty indiscriminate. ...Liam's knocking on my door. I have *no* idea how this is going to go. Wish me luck, I guess! ;) Satoshi --- [RDMgryphon] (Unencrypted e-mail) Date: Jan 8, 2004 Subject: Don’t worry about it. To: Satoshi Wantanabe I get a lot of stuff in my junk mail box that isn’t supposed to go there too. ^^; Speaking of which, did you mean to send me the email from the middle of a conversation about Paul-san’s anime? I can ask Shizaru about other things he might like again. It’s weird to think about New Years without a shrine visit. -Taki --- [Ciara] (Unencrypted e-mail) Date: Morning of January 10, 2004 (Japan) / Evening of January 9, 2004 (US) Subject: Re: Don't worry about it. To: Taki Shimiru Taki, Yeah, didn't you get the original e-mail from Haruko? She sent it to both of us. Maybe check your junk box to see if it ended up in there by accident. And sure, go ahead and ask Shizaru-san. I think some people go to church on New Year's Day, but it's not really a big thing here. Satoshi
